About Me

Tree roots sprawling over rocky ground in a sunlit forest.

My background

I'm a fine art photographer based in the Finger Lakes region of New York, where the light falls differently on water, stone, and sky than anywhere else I've known. My work begins in stillness — a particular quality of morning mist, the long exposure of a waterfall, the sacred geometry of an ordinary field.

I am self-taught, earning my B.A. in English Writing Arts from SUNY Oswego in 1993, and going on to pursue a M.A. in Counseling and Somatic Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in 2003.

Growing up on Lake Ontario in Oswego, New York, I always felt a deep connection to water and the natural world. I've also been fortunate to live in profoundly beautiful places — the San Francisco Bay Area, Boulder, Colorado, and the lush Washington, DC/Maryland area. In 2017, I returned to upstate New York with my husband to raise our daughter closer to family. We chose Ithaca because the sacredness of the land and all the waterfalls spoke deeply to us. Settling just a few blocks from Cascadilla Falls, I began capturing the region's beauty on daily walks and started selling my work in 2022.

My experience

I first fell in love with photography back in high school when I learned to develop black and white film in the darkroom and had one of my photos featured in the school's literary magazine. I was completely hooked, but it would take me over twenty-five years of working in the business world before I could pursue photography full time.

I shoot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR camera and use Adobe Lightroom to do my post processing. I make all fine art prints myself in my home studio using a professional grade Canon inkjet printer and a variety of Moab fine art archival papers so my images will not discolor or fade with age.

Today I sell my work at juried art shows and exhibitions throughout the Finger Lakes Region and am a member at Handwork Artisan Cooperative, where a diverse collection of my matted and framed prints are showcased.

My vision

My vision

I have been told by many people that I always find the beauty in the ordinary encounters of life, and my photography is where I get to really express that.

I have built a body of work around the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes region — its waterfalls, landscapes, and iconic scenes that make this place so special. But I am equally drawn to things that go unnoticed — moments that would not necessarily be considered beautiful until captured by this medium. Some of my favorite scenes come from simply going about daily life. I'll see something unexpected, and I am reminded that every moment is alive and filled with mystery.

My camera is an extension of how I see the world. I find so much joy in capturing the dance between shadow and light, whether witnessing a raging waterfall or the way fog settles over the trees.

I hope my images evoke a sense of wonder and appreciation for being right where you are. The future is a great thing — but if we are only looking ahead, we miss the beauty that stands right before us.
